NATO Secretary General, Manfred Worner has told reporters that NATO must help build a new Europe after the end of the Cold War (heard speaking). After the opening of the summit at Lancaster House, UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher warns that NATO must keep a secure defence. Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev has sent a message to the leaders who want to convince him that a united Germany should be a member of NATO. James Bays reports.
