Simon Israel reports from Westminster on a mass rally attended by hundreds of miners as Parliament debates the future of coal pits. The Government has backed down on its plan to close 31 pits but British Coal has been told to shutdown 10 after a statutory consultation period and a decision on the future of the remaining pits is being delayed until the new year.
