- Description
- Jeff Collins reports on the latest batch of hospital league tables (NHS Performance Guide), published today. Health Secretary, Virginia Bottomley, who set up the league tables, defends them and says people will find the information useful and they show improvements in the Health Service. Bob Abberley of UNISON and James Johnson of the BMA criticise the league tables scheme, and Linda Lamont of the Patients’ Association also finds fault. Controversy surrounds judgement on some of Britain’s most famous hospitals which have emerged as poor performers in the tables. NHS Chief Executive Alan Langlands defends their performance.
