Description
Ken Hancock, branch secretary of the National Union of Mineworkers at Grimethorpe Colliery, on the pit closure and job losses. 957 men will be losing their jobs, causing unemployment to rise to 28% in the town. He says there are no other industries in Grimethorpe and no future for young people. He feels dejected but not beaten and that although striking is the only option, he understands that older members will not risk their redundancy money. Male interviewer not identified.
