- Description
- Coverage of the Nelson Mandela tribute concert held at Wembley Stadium on 16/04/90, to celebrate the anti-apartheid campaigner’s recent release from prison. Includes prolonged cheering and singing of the crowd; a speech by Nelson Mandela in which he gives thanks for the international support for the release of all political prisoners in South Africa. He extends his thanks to the artists of the world who lent their talents to the effort to end apartheid, especially the concert held in 1988 to mark his 70th birthday. Mandela also says that people must rededicate themselves to the continuing struggle in South Africa, where many political prisoners are still being held.
