Description
Under new Labour proposals, hospital trusts, which currently compete with each other for contracts, would become local health services, and would no longer control their own assets. GP fundholding would be abolished gradually and replaced by a system of GP commissioning. Labour would retain national bargaining on nurses pay while allowing for local flexibility. Shadow Health Secretary Margaret Beckett is asked whether her aim had been to keep the best of the reforms and throw out what she saw as the worst.
