- Description
- Marc de Leuw reports on a fire on a cross-channel ferry, over 100 people were rescued off the Kent coast. The Sally Star was sailing from Dunkirk to Ramsgate. One crew member was injured and airlifted to RAF Manston but there are no reports of other casualties. The accident has highlighted fears defence cuts in Britain’s helicopter rescue service might affect its ability to cope with a major emergency. Includes reaction from Joan Walley, Labour Party shipping spokeswoman; Jonathan Aitken, Chief Secretary to the Treasury; Frank Dobson, shadow Transport Secretary; Colin Bennett, RMT; Linda McLeod, Sally Lines. For Morning Report.
