- David Kermode reports on a security alert near Downing Street in London at 6.30am this morning when a Birmingham lorry driver parked in Whitehall just across the road from the Prime Minister’s residence. Dennis Wadsworth ran out of petrol just yards from where the IRA launched a mortar bomb attack on Downing Street in 1991. The lorry was turned into a twisted wreck following a controlled explosion by Scotland Yard’s anti-terrorist squad.
