- Description
- Brian Ging looks back on the case of Joy Gardner, an illegal immigrant who died during a police raid on her home in London on 28/07/93. Two police officers, Detective Sergeant Linda Evans and PC Colin Whitby, have been acquitted of her manslaughter, and charges against John Burrell dropped. All worked for the Aliens Deportation Group. The case raised issues of police treatment and restraint of immigrants and has enraged the black community. Speaking are Joy’s mother, Mynra Simpson; Commissioner Sir Paul Condon; Barbara Roche MP; the Reverend Eric Brown, at her funeral; Bernie Grant MP; William McCall of the Police Complaints Authority; Peter Plisner, reporting from a march.
