- International observers say the Romanian elections were flawed. But Labour Deputy Leader and election observer Roy Hattersley says there is no evidence of widespread electoral fraud. Early results forecast a massive majority for President Ion Iliescu’s ruling National Salvation Front. Over 80 parties contested the first free elections in 53 years.The opposition had claimed they would be as fraudulent as those held under Ceauceascu. Female reporter not identified.
