The Conservatives have been outpolled by the IRA’s political wing, Sinn Fein, in their first official election contest in Northern Ireland for 70 years. Colette Jones was the Conservative candidate who polled just over one thousand votes. They lost their deposit bidding to break Unionist domination in the parliamentary constituency of Upper Bann.
