- After over 3 years in captivity in Lebanon, US hostage Robert Polhill has been released. The 55-year-old Beirut University lecturer says he hopes his fellow hostages Jesse Turner and Alan Steen will soon be released, and explains his new appreciation for freedom and his ordeal in captivity. His mother Ruth Polhill looks forward to seeing him again. US Ambassador in Damascus, Edward Djerejian, Syria’s Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara, US President George H. W. Bush, and White House spokesman Marlin Fitzwater also comment. James Bays reports.
