Description
Martin Young interviews Ulster Unionist MP, Ken Maginnis about alleged human rights abuses in Northern Ireland. In its annual report, Amnesty International says that civilian deaths, unfair trials and ill-treatment of suspects are continuing in Northern Ireland and that several people were killed by the security forces in 1991 under suspicious circumstances. It also claims that investigations into their deaths fell short of international standards, people under arrest often have confessions beaten out of them, and trials are unfair in the province’s notorious Diplock Courts where defendants have no right to silence. Maginnis is unimpressed with the report.
