The Education Reform Bill was defeated in the House of Lords last night. The Bishop of London, Graham Leonard, led the attack on the part of the bill concerned with taking schools out of local body control; former prime minister James Callaghan and David Trefgarne, Baron Trefgarne also spoke against and for the bill.
