- The British Muslim Action Front claimed that author Salman Rushdie and his publishers should face criminal charges for blasphemy against the Muslim faith for his novel The Satanic Verses, but Lord Justice Tasker Watkins ruled that the blasphemy laws only apply to Christianity, and the case was dismissed. Muhammad Aqtar(?) and Ali Azhar, acting for the Front, express their disappointment in the justice system. Bob Gregory of Penguin Books expresses his delight and relief at the outcome.
