Description
There has been a third conviction in the Iran-Contra affair, otherwise known as Irangate. Former US President, Ronald Reagan was a defence witness at the trial of Admiral John Poindexter, where saying, I can’t recall, over 100 times was not sufficient to exonerate him. After suggesting Poindexter was protecting Reagan, prosecutor Daniel Webb claims justice has been served. Poindexter’s lawyer Richard Beckler says they will appeal the ruling, which could see the Admiral serving a maximum of 25 years in jail and paying the equivalent of £800,000 in fines, although to date no one involved in the case has been given a prison sentence. Paul Woodley reports.
