Description
Negotiations continue as the Strangeways Prison riot enters its sixth day. Lillian(?) Taylor, mother of prisoner and alleged ringleader Paul Taylor, does not condone her son’s actions, but speaks of the appalling conditions prisoners have had to live in, which is what the prisoners are protesting against. Manchester Central Labour MP, Bob Litherland says as food stocks run down prisoners are fighting among themselves and changing their terms of negotiation. There has been no confirmation of rumours of bodies inside the jail, but Franklin Sinclair, a solicitor representing some of the inmates, says he has heard that at least five sex offenders were dragged from their wing and other inmates played the part of executioner. It is speculated the effects of the riot will be long-lasting. Police have been playing pop music to keep rioters from speaking to journalists. Clayre Gribben reports.
