Documentary on the development of sound broadcasting and the wireless and Marconi, the man and his company prominent in that field. Betty Hance, Marconi company historian tells of the early years. Keith Geddes, Science Museum Curator of Radio Communication between 1968 and 1986 details Marconi’s background and development of the wireless as a commercial enterprise, and reads a letter of introduction for Marconi to a UK Post Office engineer in 1896. Also part of archive 1924 recording of Marconi’s assistant Percy Paget on sending first Transatlantic signals in 1901. Ends abruptly 8 minutes into programme.
