Description

Speech in London by Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd to a meeting of the European Union of Women. He says Britain’s presidency of the European Community which begins on 01/07/92 will be used to make sure the Maastricht Treaty goes ahead. Hurd says the treaty can succeed, despite its rejection by Denmark. He also claims that the flow of ideas has begun to go in Britain’s favour, with the rest of the Community accepting that the time has come to limit the power of Brussels through the doctrine of subsidiarity.
