- Description
- Brian Hayes takes phone calls from a number of people who were at the Notting Hill Carnival (08/76) and experienced or witnessed violence, robbery and pickpocketing. One man says he’d go again, despite having been beaten and having his camera stolen; a woman complains about the number of spectators just watching the violence; a man complains that there were too many uniformed police; another man is pleased with the work of the police and also the actions of black carnival-goers who turned thieves and muggers over to them. A young black caller puts the escalation of violence down to police mismanagement of a pickpocketing incident.
