Description

PC Philip Walters was shot dead yesterday in Ilford, London whilst attempting to arrest a man suspected of burglary, while his partner PC Derek Shepherd was shot in the hand. Two men were arrested, one with the help of a civilian, a third suspect is described. Eyewitness Sheila Shibarge (?) gives her account; vox pop with local residents; news conference with Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Condon praising his officers and responding to calls from Home Secretary, Michael Howard, for automatic life sentences for those convicted of killing a police officer.
