- Description
- A south-west London man believed to be the first in the world to receive a permanent artificial heart has died in hospital. 64 year-old Abel Goodman was given the battery-powered pump last October to allow his own heart to recover. He died thirty hours after a team led by surgeon Steven Westaby at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital operated to remove it as problems developed. Reporter Paul Chapman speaks to hospital spokesman Mike Fleming.
