David Kermode reports back to an unidentified male studio reporter on the opening of the Channel Tunnel. He explains Le Shuttle which aims at the car ferry market and the Eurostar service which aims at the airline market. They discuss how Queen Elizabeth II and French President Francois Mitterrand opened the respective terminals. Kermode, who travelled on the service, says it was an unremarkable experience.
