American boxer Michael Bentt has been advised to give up professional boxing after he collapsed during his WBO fight against Herbie Hide- statement from his manager Stan Hoffman. The incident has sparked off the debate on boxing and the British Medical Association call for it to be banned- views from Bentt’s neurosurgeon John Sutcliffe; editor of Boxing News Harry Mullin; Liberal Democrats spokesperson for sport Menzies Campbell. After Michael Watson was left brained damaged from his fight against Chris Eubank the British Boxing Board of Control commissioned consultant neurosurgeon at Bath Hospital Peter Hamlyn to write a report on safety recommendations, he says there is still more that can be done.
