- News 97.3’s Jeff Collins was at the first meeting of the Westminster Media Forum earlier today. The forum has been set up to discuss the future of television and in particular digital broadcasting. Director of Programming at Sky, David Elstein, defends their position with rights to many sports. Heritage Secretary Virginia Bottomley tells the forum this is a tricky issue. The media forum will also be looking at bringing digital TV online. Miles Flint, Managing Director of Sony broadcasting, says digital TV will re-shape television for the better. Michael Starks, director of the BBC’s digital project, gives the forum a demonstration and emphasises the importance of technological compatibility across households - to avoid a repeat of the so-called satellite wars, when the market was split between Sky and BSB.
