- Description
- A hundred fire fighters told the Government today that cuts in funding for the Fire Service in London will put lives at risk. They handed in a petition with over a hundred thousand signatures at the Department of the Environment this morning. The capital’s fire authority says ministers have left it with no option but to shed hundreds of jobs, over twenty fire engines and four fire stations. Reporter Dominic Waghorn visited one of the stations under threat, at Manchester Square near Marble Arch. Here the station’s Fire Brigades Union representative, Sharon Southworth, tells him the proposed cuts were simply unacceptable.
