- Description
- Dalston’s Holy Trinity Church, officially recognised since 1959 as the spiritual home of clowns, hosted the 50th annual Clowns’ Service over the weekend. The service is organised by the Clowns International organisation to pay homage to the father of all English clowns, Joseph Grimaldi. CIO member Leon Laurence(?), known in professional circles as Jo-Jo, explains why Grimaldi is so special to clowns across the world. The Reverend John Willard, Rector of Holy Trinity and the Clowns’ Chaplain, testifies to the popularity of the annual service. Report by Lisa Costello, who speaks to various clowns. Music: The Tears of a Clown, performed by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles.
