- Description
- Bruce Pavey interviews nurses at the Maudsley Hospital in Denmark Hill, Camberwell, where staff have become the first in London to go on strike. Members of the health union COHSE have started a twenty-four-hour stoppage and are mounting a picket at the hospital gates. The strike precedes a day of action in the capital when staff from at least thirty-five other hospitals are expected to walk out. The Maudsley nurses are angry about pay and cuts which they claim are putting patients in danger. The nurses are not identified but the first female speaker may be Jo Brand (who worked at the hospital in the 1980s, later becoming a well-known comedian).
