Description
Paul Rowley interviews UK Shadow Environment Secretary, Bryan Gould, following financial statistics which show an economic recovery is not occurring as the Government predicted. The number of people losing their homes has hit record levels despite Government attempts to curb the increase. Figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders show that seventy-five-and-a-half thousand homes were repossessed in 1991 – a rate of more than two hundred a day. The trend is seventy-two percent up on the previous year. In 12/91 the Prime Minister launched a mortgage-rescue scheme with a number of building societies but Gould says the figures show the action has come too late.
