- Description
- Report on German Chancellor Helmut Kohl’s visit to Israel. Political analysts see Kohl’s visit as a thorough success for West Germany. The Israelis believe Bonn will eventually decide to sell sophisticated weapons to Saudi Arabia. Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir and other Israeli leaders expressed to Kohl their concern about possible German arms exports for the kingdom of Saudi Arabia; he reaffirms (via an interpreter) that his government will fully consider the legitimate interests of friendly countries in this region and the common responsibility for peace. He also discusses even-handedness. Israel had also asked for German help in the Common Market. Male reporter not identified (poss. Peter Allen-Frost).
