Radio Moscow World Service announces the death of Yuri Andropov, General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR and the Council of Ministers of the USSR inform the Soviet people of Andropov’s death, which occurred on 09/02/84 at 16.50 following a prolonged illness. Male reporter not identified. Announcement is followed (after a pause in the audio) by sombre music.
