Peter Spencer reports on the progress of the private member’s bill put forward by MP David Alton to cut the time limit for abortions from 28 to 18 weeks. The bill has been given a second reading in Parliament. Alton himself claims he was surprised whilst Labour’s Claire Short says a 24 week compromise will not be reached and criticises Alton’s bill.
