Rachel Lohan reports on the release of Birmingham kidnap victim Stephanie Slater. Assistant Chief Constable Phil Thomas says that police had to let the kidnapper get away with a ransom of 175 thousand pounds. The kidnapper sent tapes of Slater speaking to staff at her workplace in Birmingham; we also hear Slater’s father. The case bears a resemblance to the kidnap of estate agent Suzy Lamplugh, who remains missing. (Stephanie’s captor was later identified as Michael Sams).
