- Description
- Interview on poor safety levels in the North Sea oilfields. The MSF union has ten thousand members who work in the offshore oil industry; union leaders say they have uncovered revelations about the Piper Alpha and Ocean Odyssey disasters that will send shock waves through the Department of Energy. An inquiry into last year’s Piper Alpha disaster, which caused 167 deaths, opens on Thursday. Roger Lyons, the union’s assistant general secretary, says the oil industry’s own safety watchdogs are simply not up to the job. Female interviewer not identified. Break in recording but apparently no content lost.
