Description
A newborn baby girl has died as a result of contracting the killer bug, listeria, while still in the womb, after her mother had eaten contaminated food. Her surgeon, Doctor Donald Gibb at Kings College Hospital in Camberwell, says pre-washed salads sold in supermarkets, and all cooked chilled meals may also be infected, and expectant mothers should be very careful what they eat. He describes the background to the case, and the foods which may carry the bug. Interview is Gareth Furby.
