- Description
- More than 1100 civil service jobs are to be transferred out of Whitehall to the regions. The Government is to set up new social security offices in the unemployment blackspots of Glasgow, Belfast and Wigan in an exercise that will save 4 million pounds a year. The relocation will take place over the next 2 years, and there will be no compulsory job losses. Social Security Secretary, John Moore says the switch will take place because of the difficulties of retaining staff in London. Interviewer is Paul Rowley.
