- Description
- Kevin Heathorn interviews Len Murray, General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), about picket line violence, following the death of a miner last night (presumably 23 year-old flying picket David Jones, who died at Ollerton on 15/03/84, though note discrepancy with interview transmission date). Murray says people’s hearts must go out to the family and friends of the miner. Miners have seen pits closed, they have been moved to other parts of the country and they have lost jobs. However, Yorkshire miners’ leader Jack Taylor has said they do not and never have endorsed violence of any sort. The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has not yet made an approach to the TUC.
