Environment minister Michael Portillo interview from the radio car at The Ritz claiming the government has acted swiftly to slam the door on poll tax (community charge) dodgers. It’s extended the deadline for councils to start legal proceedings against defaulters from 2 years to 6 years. He concedes people will have to pay more to make up for the default sum.
