In an emotional but purposeful speech (extract heard), Diana, Princess of Wales stressed the need to support children in peril and help rebuild their shattered lives. In launching the seven million pounds appeal for Childline, the children’s telephone helpline, Diana was careful to avoid political controversy. Dominic Waghorn reports.
