Report on the defeat of the Greater London Council in its bid to forward fund London organisations in the run-up to its abolition. 25 million pounds would have gone to 1400 voluntary groups; ILEA was due to get 40 million pounds. The Labour authority’s Finance Chairman, Steve Bundred, says it is a devastating blow. Labour councillor Paul Boateng regrets the loss of 11 million pounds by the Black Arts Centre at the Roundhouse.
