- Description
- Andrew Manderstam reports on US Secretary of State, George Shultz’s confirmation that the USA is considering preventative strikes in the Middle East. Yesterday, US officials deliberately leaked intelligence reports suggesting that Muslim fundamentalists now have aircraft with a sufficient range to launch a suicide attack on US ships anchored off the Lebanon. This could not have been secured without the knowledge of the Syrian Government. The US fleet has been put on full alert. In an interview broadcast by the American Broadcasting Company, Shultz says the USA would consider a pre-emptive strike to protect Americans in the region. The future for the US contingent in the Lebanon will be high on the agenda when Congress reconvenes today.
