- Description
- Andrew Manderstam reports on the White House reception for released US airman, Robert Goodman. Leading members of President Ronald Reagan’s cabinet, diplomatic core, and Congress, and relatives of Lieutenant Goodman were all present as Reagan welcomed Goodman home. He had had a medical check-up at a Navy hospital and was declared fit. The Reverend Jesse Jackson insisted that the episode was a positive sign. Reagan praised Jackson for helping with the release, and announced the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Lebanon. The President did not rule out the possibility of talks with President Assad of Syria.
