John Alcock reports on the murder of Victor and Audrey Johnson, who were unable to escape from their council flat in a Stockwell tower block after an arson attack, as they had strengthened their front door with an iron grille following a rise in muggings. Neighbour, Kelly Long confirms that bolts had also been fitted to to the rear fire exits of both their flats. Police spokesman Dave Rangecroft claims there had been no rise in reported crime at the block.
