- Description
- Former prime minister James Callaghan reacts to the Government’s union ban at GCHQ. He disapproves of the ban and the method of implementing it. His main point is that the right of freedom of association is being taken away even though it is guaranteed under the United Nations charter. Callaghan says the Government has the power but not the right to take this action under the Employment Protection Acts. He thinks Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has fallen into Victorian vices. The Government is saying it is putting Cheltenham on the same footing as MI5 and MI6. Male interviewer not identified.
