- Description
- Tony Benn on his selection as the Labour candidate for Chesterfield. He feels that the whole Labour Party will support his selection, including General Secretary Jim Mortimer. He does not see it as a test of his or Labour Party leader Neil Kinnock’s popularity - rather, as an opportunity for the people of Chesterfield to say no to cruel Conservative policies. He says Prime Minister Thatcher could be stopped in her tracks for some of these policies. He feels the press owned by Rupert Murdoch and Lonrho wants to damage the Labour Party. He feels he can increase Eric Varley’s 8,000 majority. Male interviewer not identified.
