Prime Minister John Major tells a press conference (speaking after talks in Geneva between Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz and US Secretary of State James Baker broke down and Major’s trip to Saudi Arabia) that Saddam Hussein has known for some time military action was possible after the UN deadline of 15th January for Iraq to withdraw from Kuwait. He says there is still time to prevent a conflict.
