- Dennis Skinner, Labour politician and member of the National Executive Committee is disgusted with the smashing of the 10% pay policy rule with the transfer of footballer Joe Jordan from Leeds United to Manchester United. Skinner compares the rule to that applied to the firemen, who are living near to or in poverty. He claims the TUC should be ashamed for not supporting the cause of the firemen in the pay disputes.
