Description
Jeff Collins reports on fears that recent shootings in Northern Ireland will hamper the work of the US-led International Arms Commission. Police and security sources believe petty crime-related shootings to be little more than terrorists masquerading as law and order crusaders. In the latest killing, that of Ian Lyons, a group calling themselves Direct Action Against Drugs said they killed the 31 year-old in Lurgan, County Armagh. Interviews with: Superintendent Cyril Donnan of the RUC; Professor Paul Bew, Professor of Irish Politics at Queens University in Belfast; former US congressman Bruce Morrison; Seamus Mallon of the nationalist SDLP. Sinn Fein’s senior representatives involved in talks with the British and Irish governments have been urged to disown the campaign of bloodshed.
