Councillor ERIC PICKFORD explains the benefits to the I.O.W. programme and the possibility of a cross-solent link. 04:23-06:39 - MALCOLM COOPER, who won an olympic gold medal for pistol shooting at the recent olympic games, comes from Hayling Island. He talks IRN about his reactions. 06:40-10:52 - About 5000 American Sailors arrived in Portsmouth this week aboard the giant aircraft carrier U.S.S. FORRESTAL - she was too big to enter the harbour. Cdr RON LANG, who is responsible for the visit tells JANE HILL about his duties. 11:07-12:54 - PAUL POTTER reports on the DUCHESS OF YORK’s visit to the Royal Southern Yacht club at Hamble in order to name the all-female challenge boat for the Round the World yacht Race:- Maiden - Gt. Britain. 13:54-18:58 - Report on I.O.W. Car Club Rally in Parkhurst Forest where 80 competing drivers where waiting to start. JAMES KINGSWELL, race organiser, talked to the I.O.W programme with DEREK HATT, one of the navigators. 18:59-23:39 - CLIVE and LESTER JONES collect large and rare mechanical and musical instruments. LESTER JONES gave CHERYL BUGGY a brief mechanical music history lesson as he showed her around the collection. 23:37-28:00 - Last Sunday 130 churches were asked to cancel the morning service to assemble in Portsmouth Guildhall Square from parishes in the Portsmouth Diocese. TIM EADY reports on the Bishop of Portsmouths call to Evangelism. TONY WRIGLER, the Bishop’s Advisor on Evangelism, describes what the Church event was all about. 28:05-30:57 - The ninth Southampton Boat Show is currently at Southampton. MATT HOPPER talks to ROBERT PARKER, of the Emsworth Sailing School who describes a power boat from the show. 31:54-39:52 - WEEK’S NEWS and SPORT presented by ALISON HOLT. 40:43-42:28 - Report on a new vaccine which has been produced for mumps; measles and rubella, and will soon be used at the I.O.W Health Promotion centre. I.O.W. Deputy Health Promotion Officer is LINDSAY MACHARDY, she talks about the benefits of the vaccine. 42:32-46:56 - LINDA LA PLANTE has studied at RADA and has worked at the Royal Shakespeare Co. and Television.
