- OCEAN SOUND THIS WEEK NO. 19 Programme 19 of a weekly news and sports review called Ocean Sound This Weeek, broadcast by independent radio station Ocean Sound on 27th February 1987. Presented by GUY HORNSBY. TRACK 1- MATT HOPPER interviews soap sex symbol, DAVID EASTOR, who plays Pat in TV’s 5 year running Brookside. EASTOR was born in Eastleigh, has been playing in Brookside, since 1985 and although the money is nice would like to move on in a year or two. Favourite Sunday lunch roast lamb, apple pie and custard preferably shared with Sigourney Weaver. TRACK 2- LYN COURTENAY reports on Havant’s only cinema, The Empire, due to close on March 26th. RAY COBBETT, a local executive and spearheading campaign to keep it open suggests a co-operative or a consortium of businessmen or a joint venture with local Council. COLIN CROSBY, the cinema’s manager speaks of the intimate atmosphere of the 600 seater Empire. In Southampton the refurbished Gaumont cinema opens as the Mayflower Theatre, whilst the City also stages its 2nd film festival which includes the premier of Duet For One, starring Julie Andrews as a gifted violinist suffering from multiple sclerosis. MARGARET COURTENAY, also appearing in the film, is interviewed, having come straight from her stage appearance in 42nd Street. The Passions sing a hit from 1981, I’m in Love with a German Film Star. TRACK 3- CHRIS RIDER reviews the week’s news and sports. News - ROSIE BARNES wins Greenwich for the Alliance in a Parliamentary by-election. MIKE HANCOCK, MP says he is Over the Moon. Hampshire ratepayers face an 8.3 percent rise in their demand from the County Council. Leader of the Council, Freddie Emery-Wallis defends the decision, made with great difficulty and achieved by 49 Conservative members not having overall control. It could have been worse. DENIS HALL, Director of Southampton’s newly fitted Mayflower Theatre, recently opened, says Money well spent. Bourne Community School, Emsworth threated with closure. Organisers of Youth Training Schemes disclaim all connection with door to door vendors of kitchenware. War on burglars with Ocean Sound’s crime prevention campaign. Sport - GUY PHILLIPS reports. Saints knocked out of Littlewood Cup beaten 3-0 by Liverpool. Pompey beaten 1-3 by Norwich. In athletics, European and Commonwealth 400m champion ROGER BLACK of Gosport, sets out for California for warm weather training in preparation for Rome championships. In squash challenge Winner Takes All at Titchfield? Musa Halall hopes to displace Egypt’s Samir? TRACK 4- STEVE ANCSOLL interviews Lymington’s LESLIE POWERS, author of Hands Open, who spent 11 months at sea sailing round the World single handed and alone. He says that it takes a lot of resolve to even contemplate but is unmarried with no responsibilities. Birthdays - Leslie Halliwell, film expert, is 58. GUY HORNSBY plays The Police singing Roxanne in celebration of the 8th anniversary of the record’s release. TRACK 5- MARK FLANAGAN interviews taxi driver, STEVE GILFOY, from Dibden Purlieu about his winning a holiday in the Bahamas by appearing in Leslie Crowther’s TV quiz show The Price is Right.
